The first demo they showed was the same size as the Galaxy S3, and the phone could be folded in half from top to bottom, according to Jae Lee, an analyst at Daiwa Securities. Another demo phone was the size of a wallet and could be unfolded on either side into the size of a tablet computer, Lee said, adding that the devices were quite good-looking.
Samsung aims to introduce smartphones with foldable screens by the end of 2015, but the actual products will take much longer to reach users. The shift from curved to foldable screens will happen only if engineers use plastic in place of glass while maintaining sharpness and clarity.
