In the UAE, the smartphone and tablet users may not be aware that their devices are as prone to virus and hacking as their PCs.

More and more people are buying mobile devices making themselves more prone to being monitored by hackers. Tamim Taufiq who works for Symantec as regional head gave this statement. He further said: “we are making attempts to develop awareness among end users and partners in order to deal with their devices and tablets like a PC.
Increasing use of mobile devices and demand for 24/7 access to WiFi has put users at risk. According to Taufiq, 35% of users who are connected to unsecured WiFi are more likely to be hit by hackers. They should not check their banking details on the Internet.

Taufiq added that conventional virus and spam tactics allow hackers to search for private data.

If we look at report released by Norton in 2013, around one million cyber crimes took place in the UAE in just last one year. It cost $285 million. Let us see what happens down the line.
