Are You Suffering From Nomophobia?

We all keep our phones close to us, for the obvious reason that they are mobile devices. What is the point of walking some distance to answer a call? Fair enough.

But do you take your cell phone into the shower, use it every second of the day, or worry constantly about its battery running down? If the answer is yes, you might be suffering from nomophobia.

A recently coined word, "no-more-phone" phobia, or nomophobia, describes people who are obsessed with their phones and afraid of losing them. They cannot separate themselves from their phone because of some imagined threat, and this makes them carry it everywhere. The main signs of nomophobia are:

1. A panic attack when separated from the phone.

2. Constantly worrying about the battery running down and therefore carrying chargers everywhere.

3. Carrying multiple phones to stay connected all the time.

4. Becoming isolated from society, peers and family while always being active on the phone.

Any or all of these signs in a person may indicate "no-more-phone" syndrome. Research suggests that almost 66% of users suffer from nomophobia. There are support groups that can help people overcome this non-medical issue and get their real life back.
