The mobile security app maker Lookout has come up with something truly unique, at least to date. What do humans do when they are lost? They tend to signal others so their location can be traced. On similar lines, Lookout has released a technology in which a phone sends a signal about its location. What is new about that? It does so at the moment the phone is about to go dead, when the battery runs out.
The company's analysis has shown that most lost phones cannot be recovered because, after a period of time, their battery dies. Taking this into account, Lookout has added a feature to its security app. With it, the lost phone will send a signal to the telecom service provider as soon as it is about to lose power. At the same time, it will email the owner its last known location. It is a kind of final word from the phone, similar to an SOS.
The feature is highly commendable and is now available in both the Android and iOS versions of the Lookout application. Only "lost" phones can be traced this way, since stolen phones are likely to be on the move and may never run out of battery. This is probably the best feature Lookout has introduced since its inception.
