A blind executive from Lusaka was convicted by the court of hacking into the cell phones of more than seven politicians and then stealing 18,000K worth of talk time.
Jairos Tembo, 25, who was a candidate in the 2011 elections, was convicted of hacking cell phones.
The judge did not pass sentence and reserved it until April 9, since Tembo had committed offences in the past as well. The judge had to consider his earlier convictions before announcing a judgment.
In her ruling, Ms Chuulu said that Tembo gained access to the cell phones of many people and siphoned off talk time. As a result, they lost money and lodged complaints.
It emerged that the blind man had registered a fake SIM card in the name of a Mumbwa dealer called James Sakala. He used that SIM card to steal talk time from the cell phones of his targets.
Ms Chuulu stated that investigations revealed the hacker owned the number that received the talk time stolen from various phones.
In 2011, Tembo hired a vehicle to use in his election campaigns, and he used the same SIM card to hack into the phones.
